Digital media and wellbeing among children and adolescents

VIDEOGAME

VIDEOGAME is an educational program designed for children aged 8 to 11, developed by Pascal Derigo and Stefania Nessi, elementary school teachers in the Bellinzona school district, with the support of the Centro Risorse Didattiche e Digitali (CERDD). Its goal is to promote a conscious and safe use of video games. To assess its implementation and effectiveness, a collaboration has been initiated with the MEDIATICINO group at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), which will oversee the evaluation as a scientific partner.

The study will involve around 450 students from 30 classes in Ticino’s elementary schools during the 2025/2026 school year. Students and their teachers will complete a short paper questionnaire during a dedicated classroom session. The data collected will be analyzed by USI researchers and, at the end of the project, shared with schools, families, and the scientific community.

In addition to providing a clear picture of the educational impact of VIDEOGAME, the results will help identify good practices, challenges, and possible future developments. The dissemination of the data will serve a dual purpose: on the one hand, to transparently share the evidence with the educational community; on the other, to provide concrete tools to other schools, institutions, and researchers interested in replicating or adapting the program. In this way, the project can become a reference model and contribute to spreading a more conscious and responsible approach to the world of video games.
